Second Fellowship Programmes (FCPS-II Passed)
The Second Fellowship is for doctors who have already passed FCPS-II in the relevant speciality. Most Second Fellowship programmes run for 2 years, and Gastroenterology runs for 3 years. The 2-year specialities are Neonatal Pediatrics, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Pediatric Hematology & Oncology, Interventional Radiology, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery, Infectious Disease, Molecular Pathology & Cytogenetics, and Endocrinology.
Eligibility for the Second Fellowship is an MBBS degree plus FCPS-II passed in the relevant speciality, a 1-year house job, and 4 years of postgraduate training in the relevant field from a CPSP-recognised institute. This is an advanced training track for doctors who want sub-speciality expertise after completing their FCPS.
FCPS Residency (Specialty Registrar) Programmes
All FCPS Residency programmes require an MBBS degree and FCPS-I passed in the relevant speciality, plus the house job and prior training listed for each track. The programmes are grouped by length:
| Duration | Specialities | Prior Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| 3 years | Nephrology, Cardiology, Pulmonology | 1-year house job and 2 years postgraduate training in the relevant field (CPSP-recognised) |
| 4 years | Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatric Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology, Obstetrics & Gynecology | 1-year house job from a recognised institute |
| 4 years | Urology, Orthopedics & Traumatology, Pediatric General Surgery | 1-year house job and 2 years postgraduate training in General Surgery (CPSP-recognised) |
| 5 years | Orthopedics & Traumatology | 1-year house job and 1 year postgraduate training in General Surgery (CPSP-recognised) |
| 5 years | Microbiology, Histopathology, Hematology (Laboratory), Chemical Pathology, Immunology, General Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Emergency Medicine | 1-year house job from a recognised institute |
| 1 year | General Surgery (for the Orthopedics & Traumatology requirement) | 1-year house job from a recognised institute |
Orthopaedics aspirants, note: Indus offers two FCPS Orthopedics & Traumatology tracks. With 2 years of General Surgery training, apply for the 4-year programme; with 1 year, apply for the 5-year programme. Candidates without General Surgery training can apply for the separate 1-year General Surgery programme that fulfils this requirement.
IMM & MCPS Residency Programmes
| Programme | Specialities | Eligibility |
|---|---|---|
| IMM Residency – 2 years | General Surgery, Internal Medicine | MBBS and FCPS-I passed in the relevant speciality; 1-year house job |
| MCPS Residency – 2 years | Family Medicine, Anesthesiology, Pediatrics Medicine | MBBS; 1-year house job from a recognised institute (FCPS-I is not required) |
The MCPS track is a useful route for doctors who hold an MBBS and have completed their house job but have not passed FCPS-I. It leads to the MCPS qualification in two years in Family Medicine, Anesthesiology or Pediatrics Medicine.
Why Train at Indus Hospital
Indus Hospital & Health Network is one of Pakistan’s largest free-of-cost healthcare networks, with its main campus in Korangi, Karachi. Its postgraduate programmes run under the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) framework, so the training, examinations and qualifications follow the national standard for specialist doctors. Residents work in a high-volume tertiary care hospital, which means wide clinical exposure across medical, surgical, paediatric and diagnostic specialities.
For a young doctor, a residency at Indus offers structured supervision, a clear training pathway towards FCPS or MCPS, and experience of working in a system that serves patients from all backgrounds without charging them. The January 2027 session is a single intake, so doctors who miss this deadline will have to wait for the next advertised session.
